West German Pottery Spotted (42) – Retro House – Bessacarr, Doncaster

This WGP spot comes from the excellent The Modern House website which features retro/vintage houses when they go up for sale. This paticular example is in Bessacarr, Doncaster and was designed by architect Peter Aldington. The house built in 1967 makes a perfect setting for the Scheurich vase we spotted on the dining room table.

Tour de France!

Here at pots and pots we are rather partial to some cycling – so we have taken the oppertunity to get in the spirit of the Tour De France and do some re-decoration in our living room. Obviously n o display is complete without some appropraitely themed West German pottery – we couldnt quite strech to finding a vase with polka dot decor though!

We hope that it’s a great race and as exciting as everyone hopes!

Good luck to the 10 British riders too, the outside possibility of a yellow jersey with Alex Dowsett in the opening stage…

Chris Froome Geraint Thomas, Ian Stannard, Luke Rowe and Peter Kennaugh – Team Sky

Alex Dowsett- Movistar

Mark Cavendish – Etixx – Quick-Step

Adam Yates and Simon Yates – Orica GreenEdge

Steve Cummings – MTN-Qhubeka

You can see another of our West German pottery / cycling post from the 2012 Olympic road race here.

Practical Use (7) – Scheurich Schlemmertopf

Scheurich produced clay cooking pots called Schlemmertopf – the examples below shows an original Scheurich booklet promoting the benefits of this method of cooking.

They appear very similar to the RÖMERTOPF which was created by Bay. The differences may relate to the internal glaze. In 1971/2 Bay ceased to exist and they changed their name to Römertopf and only produced these clay cooking pots. Römertopf claim to have manufactured over 25 millions cooking pots.
